Rhodes as being under the Greek State ruling, is politically in the European part of the Mediterranean. Nothing to do with religious orientations.
However, as far as i know, geologically is a part of the Eurasian tectonic plaque that is constantly in turmoil with the Minor Asian and African respective plaques, that make the seismic Aegean arc on that region. One of the most active in the Mediterranean.
So you could say, that from North to South to its East and from East to West on its South is a separate geological entity.
Without any question and discussion Rhodes or Rodos is Europe as part of Greece for the last 10.000 years.
As far as I have learned, if a place is Christian, it is European. Hence the admittance of Southern Cyprus in EU and exclusion of Northern Cyprus.
Maybe somebody should tell Mr.Sarkozy that Northern and Southern Cyprus are on the same island, RIGHT BELOW Turkey. He still asserts geographical obstacles. Ha!
It is close to Asia but it is not in Asia. There has to be a border somewhere and Rhodes is consider to be within the European continent, just like all the other Mediterranean islands.
I think that ISLANDS in general are not considered part of a continent!! Malta for example historically and politically is considered European but geographically it is not part of the European continent (otherwise it would not be an island)
It is part of Greece so it is in Europe, despite it's proximity to Asia. Turkey and Russia are actually the only countries that is split between the continents. They are called Eurasian
