Why are scottish fold cats so common in Asia?

They are especially common in Japan, but I've never seen one here in the states. Keep in mind that they need to be bred with non-scottish fold cats to prevent physical deformities, which mean each litter has an average of 50% scottish fold kittens.

i can't speak for their popularity in japan, but i'd guess that it may be the fad of the moment. it is due to those deformities that it is not a breed shown or bred in the UK, so that may account for one reason it is more popular in other countries. ironic, considering it was originally found in scotland, eh?

i've seen plenty here, even have a "breeder" who regularly brings us his cast-offs when he can't find homes for the kits before wanting to breed his queen again. and he doesn't discriminate between breeding two scots together or switching one out with a british/american shorthair like you're supposed to. so most of his have deformities. nice, isn't it? people like him make me sick and are one reason why it is so hard to breed deformities out of the breed.

and while they may be straight-eared due to the special breeding program needed, the average is a bit higher than 50% that they'll have folded ears. folded ears is the dominant gene.

personally, i think they're adorable cats, one of my faves...but not the breed for everyone. they need special care because of their ears, and it takes a dedicated breeder to carry the breed on responsibly.

Are Europe and Asia seperate continents geologically speaking or are they one continent?

i read in some book it says europe and asia are techincally one continent because there is nothing that splits them from each other and there on one tectonic plate while the other continents are one seperate plates

Europe and Asia were considered separate continents long before plate tectonics were even suspected. The Ural Mountains are the geological dividing feature between the two continents, but we now know the Uralian Orogeny took place during a long period of time from the Carboniferous (Pennsylvanian) Period to the Jurassic Period during the forming of Pangaea, so the two landmasses have been one since diosaurs were just starting to show up.

I think that from a geographic point of view, the tendancy is to stick with the 7 continent system everybody is familiar with. From a geologic point of view, that system sometimes seems to be on the verge of abandonment in favor of cratons.

There are actually quite a few plates in Eurasia. The two main ones that collided to form it were the Siberian Plate and the European Plate, and they pinched the much smaller Kazakhstan Block between them.

The continents Europe and Asia are basically separated by culture (except Russia and some of its satellites are in Asia I believe). Its all one big landmass on multiple plates. The entire continent is called Eurasia.

Not all landmasses are on one plate. Just like Eurasia is on multiple plates, North America sits on at least two plates, hence the joke that in a few million years California will leave the U.S. Which is true, about half of CA is on a small plate in between the pacific plate and the North American plate.

You are right, they are really one continent. They use the Ural mountains and the Black Sea as the boundaries, but in reality it is one continent called Eurasia.

It's considered one continent because it's a single landmass surrounded by ocean, but it's actually made up of several tectonic plates -- they're joined, but still moving.

In the back of the world Atlas it says 7 continients and lists then like they are seperate Asia, Africa, N & S America , antarctica, Europe, Australia.

But in the picture it looks like they are all one continient.

But if you don't want to flunk better list them like in the book.

Would it be great news for Loverpool fans in Asia if the club relocates in the region?

One-half Loverpool co-owner Tom Hicks revelead that Loverpool has fallen behind Barcelona and Man Yoo where the majority of its fanbase is. If he secures 100% ownership of the club, he is thinking of relocating Analfield in Asia.

That will be great news for glory hunting Loverpool fans!

Yes. It will make the glory hunters happy.

i think if tom hicks did this then he would have to get a whole new team, new stadium, new manager, new set of fans and he would have to change the name of the club to maybe aisapool and he would have to get alot of body gaurds because i think the scouse fan base will try an assasination.

This won't happen coz Liverpool is in England and it will takes such a high cost and time to play a league game!!

Maybe he will changed the club name from Liverpool to Tokyo?? lol

I think that's impossible

They can go, they wont be missed

How Asia and Africa been transformed by the European commercial power?

I don't know about transformed, but the Asian economies have certainly been bolstered by inward investment from the western economies.

Not so much the African economies.

Other than the reason of colonialism, what are the other reasons for nationalism in southeast asia?

i know that due to colonialism, it led to nationalism in southeast asia countries.

but what are the other reasons that may lead to nationalism in SEA?

and are there any specific examples for each country on how they were being nationalised?

What kind of flowers are associated with Asia?

I'm planning an event with an Asian theme and am lost on what kind of flowers to use in my centerpieces. I need for them to be pink, but that is my only specification. Help?

Pink oriental lilies. Lotus and iris are another.

Orchids and lilies sitting in tiny rock gardens.

Has a Zen quality that works nicely with an Asian theme.

A lotus blossom candle floating in a crystal bowl filled with water (add the same tiny rocks at the bottom) also makes for a beautiful centerpiece.

You may find different flowers represent different cultures in various parts of Asia. In the south east, you should see more of orchid, hibiscus, roses, chrysanthemum. In China, lotus, magnolia, camellia, desert rose mean prosperity to them.

Japanes cherry blossoms.

chrysanthemum, water lily, carnation,

How to find aircraft work in asia?

I'm trying to find work in Thailand or surrounding countries, but only teaching jobs are really available. I'm a aircraft (structures) Tech/mech by trade. I've applied through various agencies to no avail! does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks

Okay here is the fact about working in Asia. First most if not all shops, MRO, repair stations or FBOs will require you to have an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) or CAA license to work. However some repair stations can hire you, but its not what you know, but who you know.

In Asia you really have to be introduced to someone by someone they know and trust. You may want to look you HEACO in Hong Kong they are a large repair station that hires non-certificated/licensed tech’s to work under the repair station certificate. I would recommend looking up their web site and forget about using a firm to find you a job they are a rip off.

Yes there are lots of jobs in Asia, but not lots of money of wages.

my man if I think you're an S/M guy there is always work for you in Asia to start with try Middle East.

If you're really a Sheetmetal guy then any MRO in Asia will get you at this instant.

Give your credentials and we'll see.

Agencies make their money from applicants fees. Go direct to the airlines websites and check their career section. Try India and China. They seem to be the ones with greatest demand.

Come to India. There is a lot of work available for aircraft people. We have one new airline coming up every six months.

What types of plants grow in Asia?

I am doing an Oriental theme in my living room and want to add some silk plants. What types of plants would look good besides bamboo and bonsai trees? My walls are a neutral, furniture is black except for my burgandy couch.

I know in Japan hydrangea are very prolific. They grow in the acid soil of the volcanoes and they are my favorite plant. Come in blues, pink, white, and green. Japan has mostly blue.

google asian plants

that would look nice... but bamboo is just about the best one

Orchids are everywhere! There are hundreds of varieties to choose from too!!

Good luck, I love decorating!

Asian plants!!! Bamboo!!

asian plants

Well alot of plants. The lotus is a common and revered flower. Rice plants are abundant due to country-wide rice fields. Bonsai tree pine species (i odnt know the name of them scientifically) are common on the countrysides. Etc.

The botany of japan is by far a favorite of mine.

i think orchid is good

bamboo

How can people in East Asia prepare for Earthquakes and volcanoes?

Well, this obviously isn't their biggest problem, but it's still not cool. They're right on the Ring of Fire, and they have some huge tall buildings. So, that really sucks for them. Is there anything that they can do to help prevent damage?

well the tall buildings and homes are especially designed to withstand earthquakes any way, they are flexible and ive been told some have wheels!? Alot of the buildings, roads etc. are aslready desgined for when earthquakes come. And volcanoes? well they can pack as much stuff a possible and evacuate, you can't stop a paraclastic flow or lava running down the mountains. All they can do is warn people to save lives, not buildings.

First, build traditionally, light dwellings and not multi-storied ones as in the case of traditional Japanese houses. Now, with the modern trend of building massive, skyscrapers adapt quack resistant foundations and structures. Earth-quack engineering has become a separate discipline. People develop a philosophical, tolerant attitude to forces of nature. When there is destruction they get back to salvaging and rebuilding without a murmur. As a rule they keep off the volcanoes by a wide margin and dwell in plains. These calamities being extremely unpredictable they have to have that attitude which may not be the norm in the west.

even with the early warning systems, there are so many people packed into the cities, they can't evacuate very well. maybe they'll rebuild the buildings to be better able to withstand the earthquakes. the governments need to think more about the safety of the people.

nothing.

they have equipment tht can normally tell whn an earthquake is about to occur and evacuate, but its out of their control sadly

china is under FOUR tetonic plates!! thy just have to be prepared for when it happens

earthquake resistant structures are being made...

in India there are no volcanoes...

earthquakes just happen

theres no warning signs

Enslave the Earth as their *****. Multiply. And dominate.

its hard to be ready but they should have like an emergency aid kit and a plan on what to do if one occurs...thats about the best anyone can do lol

Why Asia is called the continent of extreme climate?

Among all the continent asia has different kinds of climate. Why is it so?

we have the hottest country, dryest country, most moist country, coldest country in asia..that's why it's like a fusion

all type of climate in one continent...we have country that have seasons and we have country that does not have seasons..for example japan has four seasons, but singapore does not have seasons

It is the only continent with every type of climate. Or at least thats what I remember... But I can't think of what N. America is missing, either.

Asia is the biggest continent and maybe Asia have a exotic countries.

Because Asia consists of coldest area, hottest area, rainy area ,aswellas temperate climate.

Because Asia is the biggest continent, and stretches from the Arctic to the equator and beyond like no other continent, it has the most climatic types.

asia is the mean highest continent, maybe that's the reason...

asia is called so because it ihas a mixture of climate. in each country differs in climate

Which vaccines do i need for traveling Asia?

Im planning on going travelling around Asia in April.

What vaccines will i need?

I think i will need a anti malaria vancine. Does this have to be from a doctor or can you get these over the counter?

I plan to travel in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Kuala Lumpur.

Thanks

Make sure all your requirement shots are up to date and get a HEP A and B and your be fine.

Avoid malaria treatments if you can. Unless you are in malaria areas at the wrong time of year and don't cover up or use insect repellents containing DEET, anti-malarial treatments are not really necessary. I say this because anti-malarial treatments themselves can make you quite ill in themselves. Dengue Fever is far more common than malaria, and the best way to prevent that is covering up, repellents and avoiding stagnant water areas.

Do not take this as medical advice.

What you should do is consult with your doctor as what is best for you, and prior to doing so equip yourself with the latest health information like from the Australian website smart traveler

http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/Advice/

That website lists countries alphabetically with up to date and accurate information regarding health warnings and what to do to prevent them.

And don't drink tap water !!

Technically, you don't have to have any. but for saftey...

tetanus

hep a and b

malaria meds for parts of the area

Remember, you can get all of the meds here for a tenth of the price you will pay in western countries.

Can you be a surgeon in New York if you studied med in Asia?

I want to be a surgeon in New York but I only have the means to study med here in Asia. Do US hospitals accept non-US citizens who have been trained somewhere other than the US? What if I get a green card, will that help?

I work for a surgeon who has been practicing in NY for 30 years. He originally graduated medical school in the Phillipines. And I know many MDS in my immediate area who have foriegn (often Asian) medical degrees. The key is where one does residency. My boss did his at Misrecordia in the Bronx, and gained his reputation as an excellent trauma surgeon. So it is far from inpossible, just a great deal of hard work. And to work legally anywhere in the US you will need documentation.

yes after induction

Yes, but you must pass exams a very good suggestion is to do residency in New York

Why did western Europe developed more then Asia, Africa and the Americas?

and till the Renaissance it was Asia that was more developed.

but some time in history the western world got the uppr hand.

and why never Africa and the Americas never evolved from the primitive state. i mean in the of the scientific/practical technologic point of view. couse in the spiritual world point of view they are far more advanced. why did the western world developed and evolved in the world of technology far more other parts of the world?

Great Gonzo (terrific name)

This is a question I discuss in my world history classes.

The simple answer is continuous warfare between the emerging states of Europe - - each trying to gain a technology advantage.

Leonardo Da Vinci's genius was applied to war in the early 1500s. Other men of genius put their talents to military advances rather than advances in the 'quieter' arts.

I did not think Jared Diamond's book was nearly as

good as "The Pursuit of Power" by William H. McNeill 1982

regarding this topic.

Military power and transport to project that power have been the keys. That is where western Europe led the way. Power leads to wealth which pays for more power in the form of military expenditure.

Japan caught up VERY quickly after 1870 - and WWII in the Pacific was one result.

China is becoming wealthy again - - AND they have learned to use modern military power.

Western Europe / America will not be in the lead much

longer.

Hopefully, compromise and peaceful coexistence will prevail.

western world are famous in cutting off their King heads when things go wrong while the eastern world are famous in cutting the ppls head when their Kings see something wrong to their power over the ppl

You might also try "What Went Wrong?: Western Impact and Middle Eastern Response" by Bernard Lewis.

I suggest reading "Guns, Germ, and Steels" by Jared Diamond.

I agree with the guy above. That book does an excellent job of discussing your question in depth.

How did the cold war affect asia?

How did the cold war affect Asia [China and Korea] ?

The cold war forced small developing countries to pick sides. The U.S. or Russia would offer deals to these countries for their help in denouncing the other guy.

What countries in southeast asia are easy to stay in permanently?

I mean from a legal side, Thailand is my favorite but its very hard to get a permanent visa there, so what other nearby countries could I stay in? And if you know, which countries can I purchase property in as a foreigner aside from malaysia?

In my opinion I would say Singapore because the transportation was easy to figure out and everything was in english. It was also very clean. I had more fun in Bali than Thailand but I cannot say that I did not like Thailand. In Singapore you can rent or lease but they are strict. I had looked it up at a Remax site years ago.

Easier....Cambodia, Vietnam..

Property...Cambodia - 99 year lease

....Vietnam - 99 lease

Think you will find in all countries there is no such thing as a permanent visa.....you either apply and get permanent residence or citizenship....technically visa;s are not intended to be permanent anywhere in the world...

Even in Malaysia, even though you can buy property there are restrictions, and the one thing I am not sure about is inheritance of property...have a feeling even in Malaysia its a 99 year type lease system, but stand to be corrected...

Thailand eventually is going to fall behind countries like Cambodia and Vietnam due to its unfriendly farang policies, how much it will loose out to the abovementioned countries...who knows....

Thaialnd is pretty easy to live in permanent if you have one specific qualification...Money

Philippines. You can do practically anything in the Philippines.

Besides, there are lots of advantages: 1) Filipinos all speak English,

2) Filipino culture is fairly Western enough,

3) It is the country in Asia with the largest American and European population,

4) Religion-wise, the Philippines is mostly Catholic and Christian, so there are no hassles,

5) Well, Philippines is the nicest country in Asia because it has the best of both worlds - from Asia and Micronesia,

6) Excellent shopping, nightlife, and living,

7) Modern facilities and infrastructure,

8) Lots of available condominiums in planned cities around Manila,

9) If you want to be treated with hospitality, the Philippines is the best,

10) The next adventure tourism destination, according to lots of European and American travel magazines,

11) Nice people,

12) Every cuisine around the world from Asian to Zulu is represented.

I believe that you can do this in the Philippines, I have a couple aunts and uncles that moved over there, my aunt ownes a house and my uncle owns a condo.

We are not Philipino, nor are they married to any. I have been there a couple times, and i hope to retire there....one day

If you were 50 I would say Thailand, you could get an awesome apartment right on Sukhumvit for under $200 per month!!! I would probably drink myself to death, but have a damn good time doing it!!!

Singapore is prolly safest! :)

Why are the filters of cigarettes in Europe brown and in Asia white?

Why are the filters of cigarettes in Europe brown and in Asia white?(The piece of paper around the filter-can't smoke it)

Because white is cooler and asia is into that.

depends on brand, in US theres both.

there are brown filters on some cigs in asia, its just probbaly the brand or where it is manufactured

Can you give me a link that has all the names of the stores in the Mall Of Asia?

I'm going to the Philippines really soon [December 13] and my family is going to bring me to the Mall of Asia. I need to know what stores there is so I can buy all the things I want there, that is really expensive here.

I live in Southeast Asia, is it suitable for me to keep a hermit crab as a pet?

Southeast Asia is very humid but rather hot.

YES you can, here are some basics:

To live comfortably in captivity, hermit crabs require the following:

Temperature no lower than 72°F. Consistent low temperatures can kill a hermit crab. Don't allow them to bake in a window, either. If they get too hot they will die, and overheating causes irreversible damage and a slow, painful death. Signs of overheating are a musty smell and discharge of brown liquid;

A constant humidity level of at LEAST 70% humidity. Try to remember that you want the inside of your crabitat to have a moist, "tropical" feel to it;

Substrate deep enough that the crabs can bury but not so deep that it negates the effects.

well i guess since u live in asia, nothin isn't wrong with having a crab as a pet although alot of people still have crabs as pets

of course there are hermit crabs native to the area. They love hot, humid environments.

yup,

there are a few hermit crabs native in southeast asia.. Go to the beach and catch some and put in your aquarium.

yes they make great pets... although they really smell.

Certainly!! I live where it is very hot and humid, and they are sold in pet stores here.

Sure. Hermit crabs need humidity to live.

How do I prepare a reopt about "moving manufracturing in asia"?

I got this assignment and very littl time. Moving manufracturing in asia. Its a operational management module.

Research as much as possible then put in in paprgraph form list your sources!

I guess you should ask this in EDUCATION instead of TRAVEL. I'm just giving you a suggestion.

What's the career path way for a psychology major in US? How much is it to be different compare to in Asia?

Are music therapy and hypnotism a form of clinical therapy? Are music therapy and hypnotism common in US?

which institutions provides the best sources of learning method and training for music therapy and hypnotism, preparing oneself for a career in those related fields, both in the states and asia?

What are the requirements to enroll in such schools or signing up for the program? to what extend it is applicable as a professional and helping profession?

What are the spesific job positions and descriptions like? how's the renumeration like?

what are the affiliates for music therapy and hypnotism, both in the states and asia?

You can work for yourself in private practice (very hard I have heard) or work as part of a larger clinical practice. Typically psychology majors get their Ph.D or at least a Masters degree (M.A or M.S) which allows them to become licensed as Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs). The licensure issues vary from state to state in the U.S. so this might be different for you.

You might find yourself working in a rather low paying and highly stressful drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility as someone who has only a Bachelors degree in psychology. With your Masters you would get a promotion, and maybe move into management.

In counseling you would probably need to be in graduate school or have your Ph.D and become a rather low paid member of a clinic to get your experience.

The process of getting licensure once you've graduated usually involves getting a certain amount of hours of training and experience. This is sometimes unpaid initially and then moves into a low-paid position. This may run into thousands of hours before you can get your license (MFT) and that still assuming you pass the MFT examination.

As far as music therapy and hypnotism they are not what I have heard of as "typical" forms of clinical therapy but there are many unusual forms of therapy out there with their own niche followings. If you have an MFT and provide services you can provide them in any way that is considered to be reasonable and effective (i.e. if your therapy is totally ineffective you may be open to malpractice lawsuits and losing your license).

You may want to open a yellow pages and find advertisings for counselors and ask them what their experience is like. Most of them should be willing to give you a few minutes on the phone, and one or two - if you are persistent - might make an appointment with you to talk things over.

Good luck.

Sorry, I have no idea what a reopt is. Perhaps if you scroll down to the bottom of the page and and click on one of the flags of an Asian country board and post your question there might be someone that knows what you are talking about and can give you an answer. You have posted your question on the USA board and not too many Americans would know what you are trying to find out.

How do you feel about the rise of China, and Asia surpassing the USA in global power?

Eventually China's economy will be greater than US. Probably in the next 25 years. Along with that Asia, it will probably have more influence on the world than any other region. What's your take? Keep it short, please.

The power had to shift eventually!The U.S.has been running things for about 2 hundred years.Those other nations are acient,1000's of years old .So they don't like being pushed by an infant nation!But we can compete if we start putting more money into education,in small businesses,and start producing products that will out compete their competitors in the global market.

While sooner or later the US won't be the same world power it is now, take some time and listen to 1980s music. About half the songs from American artist spoke of our concern that the Russian would bomb us and the Japanees would buy us. China's really warped combination of a free market economy with at communist government give China a unique opportunity that no one else has had, I'm not worried.

It will be a positive thing for it breaks the strangle hold from the dominant Us position in the world. A balance of power will be a better deal rather than a dominating US, whereby the EU, China, Russia, US and the third world nations would balance out each other.It will be more challenging and many nations would have to adjust their economies.

Interesting question.

Connect the dots

Money is Power ...right

USA sends big dollars in aid to China...right

USA is spending tremendous economic dollars in China

USA shares advances in science & technology with China

USA even sends billions of dollars of trash to China

USA influences which country will be the Next SuperPower

Understand that though USA sends aid, shares advances, & spends money with other countries, that China gets huge chunks of the Money. China also has military advances such as long range nukes..

We'll live... I hope.

it only affects me when my dumbass friend complains to me about it every single day.

nothing really to worry about. the bird flu is going to wipe out asia. the U.S. will be back on top because we'll be the only country that can afford the drugs to combat the disease.

Do people from southern europe, and southern and western asia have almond eyes?

i know its popular for people in Eastern, and SE asia to have almond eyes, but the middle east is pretty close to them. And I've seen some Italians with almond eyes before. Or is there some other shape?

The Almond shape is called an "epicanthic fold". And it is common among Asians, Native Americans and Also parts of Africa. If you see someone with "Almond eyes but with otherwise European features they most likely have an ancestor from those groups.

What strategy Nike should used to face the protests against nike"s so called sweatshops in Asia?

what do you think Nike should do to face the protests by human rights and other organizations in their campaigns agains the so called protests against nike's sweatshops in asia?

If they're using sweatshops in Asia, then they should stop.

If they really are not sweatshops, then educate the public as to what they are. Alot of people are lemmings in that they believe any thing they read. If all they hear is the negative, that is what they will believe.

What is the most important reason why European merchants began searching for sea routes to Asia in 1400?

What is the most important reason why English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish merchants began searching for sea routes to Asia in 1400?

Trade.

Europe had been trading (importing / exporting goods) with Asia for centuries, but it was very expensive and time consuming to transport goods by overland caravan, so they needed to find oceanic routes. The sea routes between Europe and Asia allowed imports from Asia at a fraction of the cost and in far greater volume.

Why do MOST prostitutes, gangleaders, drug lords in Asia worship Taoist gods?

I live in Asia and have witnessed this strange trend.

These people worship taoist gods and ask the gods to grant them success in these vice activities.

In my personal opinion, modern taoism with the many gods is a false religion and an evil in society.

I am Asian, Singaporean by the way.

What do you guys think about this trend?

they clearly do not truly follow Taoism. Its a very peaceful religion. It is not evil, but rather those who use it as an excuse to spread hatred or pain... It is like any other religion.

I think it is sad that a person who comes from many thousands of years of structured belief which when studied has shown to be deep insightful and and very rewarding can be so judgemental fo their own culture just because a belief that is maybe half as mature has said they should be.

What would your great grandmother say that is who you should be talkign to

Tao Te Ching doesn't even have any gods....

So I think this is some sort of pagan interpretation.

And I don't know any asian prostitutes, gangleaders or drug lords, so I can't comment on the trend.

Different society, so therefore they have been around Taoists more than Christians. Its the spiritual environment that they were brought up in

If they religion is Tao and they do such bad humiliating acts on others or them self's; they will be face to face with Karma.

Religion and evil go hand in hand.

without religion , it's much harder to do evil.

I don't know but a good analogy to this is what happens in the United States where a lot of gangsters and hardcore criminals wear a big cross around their neck...

And your religion is somehow true?

I did not know about this. It is very interesting. Yes , I agree with you. It is evil.

What's a Taoist god? There is no such thing. The Tao that cannot be named is the eternal Tao.

Buddhist/Taoist.

Taoism has no gods.Could it be a regional practice?

I can't comment, but...how exactly do YOU know what their religions are? Is there something you're not saying?

and you wouldn't be biased on this topic, right?

Where are the best places to visit in Asia?

I have two or three weeks to travel to Asia in December. I'm thinking about Japan and or Thailand? Any suggestions? Why? Any advise?

Japan is a very interesting place but very expensive. Thailand is great, one of the easiest places to travel in the world. I would disagree a little bit with the earlier post about Bangkok. Yes, it's polluted and not the best looking city but it's actually a very "hot" city these days. Great clubs, restaurants and shopping. But I only spend a couple days at a time there and like the other poster, I go to smaller town Thailand.

http://indiareadyreckoner.blogspot.com/2007/09/best-place-to-visit-in-india.html http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20060829132212AAsdXdR&kid=DYF0Gk3iIFoOLq7Dr_Wa&s=comm&date=2008-01-24+21%3A57%3A11&.crumb=

Japan is safe but expensive and people don't speak English.

Thailand is inexpensive,but now goverment is very unstable/trouble.

Luang Prabang, Laos...

It's a gorgeous, well-preserved city with a small-town feel, and easily the gem of the country!

Picture french colonial architecture next to temples right on the mighty Mekong River. A World Heritage site that is still a well-kept secret among SEA travelers...worth the trek FOR SURE!

After having traveled to Thailand I can easily say that there is no where on earth like it. GReat culture, weather, beaches, people, and very good prices. I spent a week in Thailand at what it would cost me for 2 days in New York City. I would advise you check it out. I did Bangkok for 3 days and then went to Phuket for 4. You can live like a millionare on a low budget.

I agree with everything Todd said.

THAILAND for sure.

when you get to Bangkok, leave it right away and go to Chiang Mai or to a island like Phuket or Koh Samui

just because those places are hundred times better than Bangkok.

Bangkok is more touristy.

the philippines. try visiting banawe rice terraces, cebu, boracay...etc...and of course PALAWAN. these places are rich in natural resources and the people are very friendly. also you don't have to spend a lot.

China, Hong Kong ,Japan ,Thailand. they all are very nice. but Japan is very expensive

I went a 15days tour for Singapore, Hong Kong , Malaysia and Thailand

for $1850 included hotel food and tour guide. start from LA

there are 2 excellent travel agencies in Hong Kong - you can try to check on the price

www.hongthai.com/main.asp

www.chinatravel1.com/home.htm

or you can call Ruby my California travel agent 1626-288-3857

Here are a few places in Asia that you may want to consider:

Thailand, as most of the people here say. Phuket for the beach, Chiangmai if you want a mountainside resort.

Hong Kong, for a shopping spree.

Bali, Indonesia for its beach resort.

Philippines to Boracay, Cebu and Palawan. Beach and nature resorts.

Singapore, shopping especially in December. There is a light up in the shopping areas and the place will be aglow and brightly lit. This is many people's favourite time, plus holiday season sales that even brings in visitors from neighbouring countries. You should not miss this.

For variety in your travel, suggest you come through Thailand, spend a week there in Bangkok and Phuket, head out to Philippines, relax another week. then stop by Singapore for your holiday shopping before you head home.

Thailand best option,

dont forget some nice action at a massage place

Save some money and go to Thailand.

why don't you try NEPAL...

Everest basecamp trek is One of the world's 10 destination you must visit befor you die...N there's a lot More.....

visit

I think you go for thailand if you like more eco sites but japan is good as well. there are lots of other destinations in asia.. you can try philippines.. the accom and foods there are quite cheap also. See if you like some of these places in the philippines..

There are lots of other eco site there in the phils.

Try searching on the search box or click on the links there in the pages.

How long was Henry Hudson's journey to Asia?

How long was the journey, the one where he was trying to find a northwest passage to Asia and found the Hudson Bay?

His ship set sail on 17 April 1610. On 22 June 1611 after a mutiny by his men Hudson and some companions were set adrift in a small boat and likely perished shortly thereafter. The ship returned to England in October of that year.

Why do we have military present in East Asia?

I have been told that we have troops there due to the taiwan/China conflict, but is there any need for troops in East Asia anymore?

the same reason we have troops in europe.....mobility reasons, if something happens that needs a quick response its faster to deploy troops from overseas......say korea does something stupid, its more practical to send troops from japan that can be there in a couple hours then to try to round up troops in the US to send......plus most of the countries where we have overseas bases are huge allies ( japan and england for example)

Most predominate is the friction and issues with North Korea. Only some in Taiwan just in case but most are in Japan and South Korea if North Korea gets too cocky.

I think we have some in the Phillipines (not sure). But it's suppose to ensure a greater global response and faster actions. Sceneros as if North Korea desides to ship a couple nuclear weapons to Iran or Al-Qaeda and if we are there, it allows us to react fast and take it out.

In case North Korea decides to do something stupid, like invade South Korea.

KOREA maybe?

Looken after South Korea

Mostly leftover from trouble with the whole east timor- Vietnam- Philippines- China- Korea's- Russia etc ordeal's of the later 20th century involving communism, cheap labor, oil, etc. and to protect US interest and power in the region and to prevent anyone from harming or questioning Western imperial hegemony and to protect American investors and companies.

Mostly leftover from trouble with the whole east timor- Vietnam- Philippines- China- Korea's- Russia etc ordeal's of the later 20th century involving communism, cheap labor, oil, etc. and to protect US interest and power in the region and to prevent anyone from harming or questioning Western imperial hegemony and to protect American investors and companies.

what caused it to start in asia?

WORLD WAR II

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II

Section titled "Chronolgy"

"The start of the war is generally held to be in September 1, 1939 with the German invasion of Poland. Other dates for the beginning of war include the JAPANESE INVASION OF MANCHURIA IN 1931, the start of the SECOND SINO-JAPANESE WAR IN 1937, or one of several other events. Other sources follow A. J. P. Taylor, who holds that there was a simultaneous SINO-JAPANESE WAR IN EAST ASIA, and a Second European War in Europe and her colonies, but they did not become a World War until they MERGED IN 1941; at which point the war continued until 1945."

~~~~~~~~
EVENTS PRECEDING WWII IN ASIA
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Events_preceding_World_War_II_in_Asia
Re-worded a bit for use of a timeline.
1912- The revolution led by the KMT (Chinese Nationalist Party) and others ended the Qing Dynasty and was replaced by the Republic of China (ROC).
1914- WWI starts. The intense battle ends four years later.
1919- The KMT was reorganized.
1921- The Communist Party of China (CPC) was formed (separate of the KMT which still existed. Both the KMT and the CPC were two primary forces aimed to unite China under their ideology, but the union didn't last long). The CPC controlled the central region.
1924- The KMT started a military campaign to defeat the northern warlords (remaining from fragmented regions prior to WWI).
1927- With much of southern and central China under their control, the KMT openly turned on the CPC.
1928- The KMT took most parts of China under its power and the warlord controlling Manchuria agreed to KMT leadership of Chiang Kai-shek.
*Basically, the KMT just kept rising and rising in power all the way up to the start of WWII (and kept taking all my troops and tanks on the RISK gameboard. Just kidding).
Section titled 'Noteworthy Events"
1919: Japan, as a member of the victorious Allies during World War I, gains a mandate over various Pacific islands previously part of the German colonial empire. The primary island chains are the Marshall Islands, Marianas, the Carolines, and Truk Lagoon. Japan joins the League of Nations.
1921: Foundation of the Communist Party of China.
1922: The Washington Naval Treaty is signed, limiting the fleets and vessels of the navies of the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, France, and Italy. Japan is limited to about two-thirds of the fleet allowed for the United States and Britain. This is seen in Japan as a denial of Japanese equality amongst European powers.
1924: First congress of the Kuomintang under Sun Yat-Sen.
1927: Open conflict between the CPC and KMT commences in China. This continues until the 1937 invasion by Japan, but even then there remains a clandestine battle between the two.
Best of luck to you!
The late 1930s and the 1940s were a time of shifting diplomatic alignments in Southeast Asia. Because Europeans and Americans were preoccupied with domestic economic problems and with defending against the German advance in Europe, they were less interested in their Asian colonies, thereby opening opportunities for Southeast Asian nationalists to assert leadership. At the same time Japan was extending its economic influence and military power, moving southward through China into Southeast Asia. The Japanese cultural campaign proclaimed that Asia should be ruled by Asians and promised independence from the Western colonial/imperialist rule. At first some Southeast Asians admired and welcomed the Japanese. However, when the promised independence was not forthcoming, Southeast Asian nationalists â€" many of whom had been leaders in resisting Western colonial rule (as in Indonesia, Burma, and Vietnam) â€" mounted underground movements to drive the Japanese out. In Thailand, the anti-Japanese movement (the Free Thai or Seri Thai) had several branches; some operating from outside the nation and some working underground in Thailand to sabotage the Japanese. Residence groups throughout Southeast Asia were, first and foremost nationalists, pledged to freeing their nations of foreign interference, whether throwing off the colonial yoke of Europe or thwarting the intrusive advance or military control of Japan. The most significant development of the World War II period in Southeast Asia was that Southeast Asia nationalists seized the opportunity for leadership and nationalist independence movements flourished.
Japan began attack Pearl Habor and they invade Korea, China and Southeast Asia.
what is the natural water barrier that lies between the continents of Europe and Asia?
The Caspian Sea and the Black Sea both.
Europe is the extension of Asia.Yet Europeans consider themselves 'different'.
i think there's no water barrier between Europe and Asia.The land barrier between them is the Ural mountain.
There are actually 5 bodies of water that amoung the so called adopted boundry. The Artic Ocean, Zhem River, Caspian Sea, Sea of Azov, and the Kerch Strait. This line runs south from the Artic Ocean then southwest from the Zhem River to the Kerch Strait.
Europe and Asia are seperated on a cultural basis rather than a physical differentiation. Some experts consider europe and asia to be a same continent called eurasia .
What are the sizes in sq km of the regional divisions in asia?
can you give the sizes of the 5 regional divisions of asia.. they are north asia, south asia, southeast asia,southwest asia, and east asia.
I am not aware of a uniform agreement as to the definitions of the sub-regions of Asia. The closest would be the United Nations definitions. Unfortunately, you would have to add up the areas yourself from the listing in the source.
=========================
Area of Asia 43,810,582 km²
Eastern Asia
South-central Asia
South-eastern Asia
Western Asia
=========================
North Asia is a particularly troubling concept. I would define it as the Asian portion of the Russian Federation, but that is by no means universal.Russia is 17,075,400 square kilometers
For example IUCN defines North Asia as:
Russian Federation (presumably the whole country)
Belarus
Republic of Moldova,
Ukraine
but it's more conventional to think of those countries as the far east of Europe.
Asia is too big an Area (larger than both Americas).
North Asia: Siberia
Central Asia: Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Tajikistan, Uzbekstan, Turkmenstan
East Asia: Mongolia, Koreas, Japan, China, Taiwan
South East Asia: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma (Myanmar), Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Philippines, Singapore
Paco's answer about IUCN definition of Russia as
incluing Belarus, Moldova & Ukraine in Asia is crazy. These are the countries deep inside Europe. TransCaucasian republics-Azerbaijan & Georgia are subject to debate but not the former three. Something wrong somewhere. Out of Russia's 6.6 million sq.km, 5.2 million sq.km area is in Asia (east of Urals) making it the biggest Asian country (China has 3.7 million sq.miles) whereas Russian Europe is only 1,4 million sq.km.
South Asia: Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Afghanistan
Weast Asia: Iran, Iraq, Turley, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrein, Qatar, UAE, Oman, Yemen
What is better for a 5 month trek/tour city/rural around SE asia, a backpack or a rolling luggage?
I've been around SE asia before backpacking it years ago. Seems like the new thing is to use something like eagle creek ORV trunk (rolling suitcase) which was given as a gift. Travel will include bouncing around from city/city, buses, trains, planes, taxi. Won't be doing any hardcore trekking this time. Any suggestions? Thanks
well if someone got you the trunk, use it. eagle creek makes good stuff. I'd got with a large wheeled duffel (30"), and a large backpack. don't go with a wheeled backpack.
backpack_ always...having your hands free at all times is the way to wander. You can strap a set of wheels ( a lightweight luggage dolly) to the pack if you ever need a change. 2nd hand stores are full of them.
backpack
Rolling luggage only works well on smooth flat surfaces.
How many of you will think abut coming here to Asia to vacation?
If you have the time then Asia for the most part is inexpensive and great to get to know about. You acn actually live here for a couple of months for less than what it would cost to stay home. Yes it is true. This is not true for Japan and tight in Korea but China and SE Asia is still cheap.
Come and enjoy the people, will you?
Sure, I'd love to go to China. But from the east coast of USA, that's about a 13 hour flight just to get to a jumping off point like Beijing. Have you been on a plane in coach for 13 hours these days? That's a tough ride. The $1200 dollars to get there and back is reasonable, but still a good chunk of money. Maybe I'll make it there someday in the next few years, but it will be quite a trip - I'd rather work out a way to go live there for a while instead of just being an in-and-out tourist.
Yes you are right! My husband and I travelled to China last year and that was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Yangshou (not sure of spelling) was so gorgeous! We could have stayed there forever! The food was fantastic and the beer was super cheap! If you get the chance, go there!!
HOw to make a good marketing plan for men's cosmeceutical product in Asia?
Cosmeceutical industry is increasing in Asia area.
I would like to know how U.S cosmetic industry is doing for marketing strategy in domestic men's cosmetic.
Majority of men in asia do not have great physique. The brands should have a model who look like a common asian. Make the brands available at the arms distance. Do not deny the role of saloons, since most of the men get free time at saloons.
Simple.Follow 4ps guidelines.I.E.Product,Place,Packing and the Price.Same is followed in US too.Its a business which entirely depends on Market Research.
> get a website for your product first
> your model should be an Asian popular star (there are few from Hong Kong, Korea & Taiwan).
> do product launching in a shopping complexs (in Asia itself)
> assign a dealer of your product in each country
For building your website, u can login here: http://www.website.ws/powercontrol
My website is: http://www.silverroad.ws (this website is built from the same link).
How can you use your own hairstraighter in a different country, especially ASIA.?
When i say asia is that their electricity is far more stronger than ours and i was wondering how i would be able to use my CONAIR straightner there. I've heard of adapters, but what are they? How do you use them? How much are they? and How do they help? PLEASE HELP ME! IN NEED OF GREAT ADVICE
You gotta buy one of those electric plug transporter (or whatever its called!) so you can plug the american thing in one end, and put the plug into the socketthere. it works in asia- ive tried it with my hairdryer.
their plugs are different so you need an adapter so that you can even plug it in. I will make it so that everything works without being to high in electricty
by an adapter, when you get there, bring you iron to the store, they can help you...i know I have adapters for thing from Korea...they are just small little boxes, like an extension cord, you just plug into that
What countries are part of South Asia?
I am East Indian and am curious. Everyone says I am south asian but I want to know which countries are part of south asia besides India.
South Asia typically consists of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, and British Indian Ocean Territory. Some definitions may also include Afghanistan, Myanmar, Tibet, and even Iran.
Maldives, Bangladesh, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Nepal, & Bhutan.
Where can i find cheap tickets to go to asia on july 09?
i plan on going to asia in july but the tickets are expensive. leave in july return in august. what are some good websites to get cheap tickets to asia? from LAX.
Ticket prices go up pretty much everywhere when you fly in the summer. That is when the children are out of school and when families start to travel. Depending on where you are flying, Korean Airlines and China Airlines tend to have lower ticket prices than Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific. You can also see if there are any Asian travel agencies which can get you a good deal. They buy tickets in bulk and are able to pass those savings along to you.
The difference between the effrects of World War 1 on Europe and Asia?
I am writing a compare/contrast essay on the effects of World War 1 on Europe and Asia. I need to know some similirities and differences, especially the differences between the way their societies dealt with their problems and the differences in how their economy was affected.
The war in Europe was a war of attrition, with little ground gained on the western front, but many lives lost. The eastern front in Europe was something like a yo-yo, with one side making huge territorial gains, only to lose them because their supply lines were spread too thin.
The war in Asia was much more one-sided. Japan allied with the Allies & wound up taking much of Germany's colonial possessions in that region.
Why do ppl in the west drink black coffee but those in Asia usually drink it with milk?
If you order coffee in India, Asia it is normally served with milk but in the US & europe it is served black. Cream is added to it and not milk. Why is this difference?
People in the US drink their coffee in many different ways.
Black=nothing in it
Dark =a tiny drop of milk--possibly sugar/sweetner
Regular=sugar/sweetner and milk/cream
Light=sugar/sweetner and extra milk/cream
Any of the above can be made "extra sweet"
Note that some prefer no sugar or other sweetner, just as some prefer no milk or cream.
Maybe it's because milk is more readily available in Asian countries, especially India, which is an agricultural country.
But this stems mostly out of the fact that many Asian countries were British colonies and greatly influenced by the British way of life, including the way they add milk with tea.
However, there are many people who find that adding cream in their coffee is an alternate option from adding milk.
Jenova
(d.yuffie@gmail.com)
I live in the U.S. and a 'regular' coffee has milk/cream and sugar. Usually restaurants use cream (half & half) because it makes the coffee smoother. I like half/half also.
Some people have their own preferences.
NO, In US also almost all drink with milk, unless someone hates milk, like some do in india as well, brother
I have no idea. I just think it is cultural.
Because brown people (and asians in general) are obsessed with milk... everything has to have milk in it.
Western culture doesn't put that much emphasis in milk.
It's very common for people in the west, particularly Americans, to drink coffee with milk or cream.
Most in Asia don't drink coffee with milk. Perhaps, in India they do, but in east Asia, dairy isn't usually ingested.
no...not really. in the philippines and other southeast asian countries drink it black and very strong...
only in Europe hun
we put half and half
and sugar
it mite be served without bc the waiter/ess doesn't know how much you want
?
dont know
because they have only milk in asia
Were army wives allowed to go with their husbands to Southeast Asia and able to attend school there?
I was looking through some old paperwork in my basement and found a form my grandmother had filled out that said she'd attended the National University of Singapore. This is odd because as far as I knew she had been a homemaker for the majority of her life, not leaving the town she was born and raised in. My grandfather did go to Southeast Asia at some point in his military career, probably early sixties, maybe earlier.
If she was British or Australian yes it is possible, the British had a major base in Singapore until the late 60s when they gave it back to the Singapore government. She could have attended that university while he was stationed there. It is also possible if she is American that her husband was there on duty with the Embassy in which she could have come then as well. Or the US had a small presence there especially during the Vietnam war.
Yes, if they lived on a military base. I currently know a family doing pretty much exactly the same thing you described.
Yes, it is possible.
no
absolutely not!
without a draft, it is a welfare system that should come under the direction of the director of human resources and labor. we need a war department rather than a defense dept. absolute nonsense!
Has anyone flown with Air Asia or Tiger Airways?
I'm deciding which airline to use. I am flying on July 3 from Singapore to Phuket. Air Asia costs $100 and Tiger Airways costs $110. Has anyone flown with either of these airlines? How was your experience? What are the chances of a delayed/cancelled flight?
Is There a Haircut Place in The SM Mall of Asia?
I'm going to the Phillipines next week, and i'm also going to the SM Mall of Asia...I'm planning to get a haircut there, but I want to know if there is a haircut place there.
I agree to the suggestion of the contributor above.
There are lots of beauty salon in SM Mall of Asia like Ricky Reyes Salon, Ystilo i guess etc. Since the mall is so wide and time consuming if you dont know where exactly you are going, i suggest that you secure a map of the mall at the customer service center found at the entrance of mall.
happy malling! I hope you can find the best salon to cater your needs.
What are the difference of social status of physician in Asia and Europe?
I am doing a research regarding the social status of physician in Asia and Europe.... despite the job there is bound to be a difference between the social status of physician between this 2 big continents... social status define by different aspects such as salary, political roles, economical, popularity....and for every aspects, what are the reasons for its current states? any effects or changes in the future?
The status of a doctor has changed dramatically over the years. About 30 years ago, being a doctor meant that you were often at the top of your community in terms of education, earning power, and "honor." Today thanks to the HMOs doctors are no longer revered as they used to be. In Europe and Asia doctors are considered well educated and therefore are treated accordingly. In communist societies such as Cuba and China, they are considered on par with any other profession.
Which country in Southwest Asia has the best relationship with the United States?
Southwest Asia? I've never heard of that term. Only heard of Southeast Asia. Possibly Philippines because of all the mail order brides who are dying to marry an American.
(He meant southwest Asia as in the middle east)
I would say probably one of the Persian gulf countries:
Qatar
Kuwait
Bahrain
United Arab Emirates
Israel also
Southwest or Southeast, i think its the Philippines!
Probably Japan
When is the next cadet pilot intake for Air Asia?
I want to become a pilot. Does anybody know when is the next cadet pilot intake for air asia? And,i am wearing glasses. But i am not astig and colour blind.Does this taken into concern?
I can't tell you when the next cadet intake will be, although considering the current economic climate it may not be any time soon (although don't quote me on that).
wearing glasses will not affect your ability to fly or competitiveness during employment selection, although it will be a requirement to wear your glasses at all times whilst flying and this will be printed on your medical. good luck
