Battle of the Atlantic
Battle of Britain
Battle of the Bulge
The Normandy Invasion
The Dieppe Landing
The Battle of Iwo Jima
There were more than five years worth of battles.
How about Dunkirk, Stalingrad, The Battle of Britain, the Battle of the Bulge, the assault on Monte Casino, any of the landings such as D-Day or the landing at Anzio. As for the Pacific Theater, try Iwo Jima, Tarawa, Truk, Guadalcanal, Tinian, Okinawa, The Coral Sea, Midway.
Those are all major battles. I guess to a soldier or sailor, the only minor battles were ones you weren't in.
