While i think it would be an excellent idea, i think it's out of the question until the problems over there are resolved (HIV/AIDS, Genocides, Civil war, etc.) and assuming movies are true, i personally see African children playing soccer more than baseball.
Well overlooking the social economic and other factors, the truth is these camps are set up in those countries because baseball is one of, if not the, major sports in those countries. So the motives of MLB in setting up those camps is not completely altruistic.
Now, if Major League Soccer wants to step up and develop camps like that - then Africa would be one of the countries they would want to go into.
It would be nice if it was done but there is too much conflict & turmoil right now to make that possible.
yea black people are good at everything
yeah, i would think so. africans are tremendous athletes (especially in soccer). i think it would be worthwile, especially as baseball is trying to expand and become more global.
Africans are currently fueling the top European soccer teams and prove to be amazing natural athletes.
I am sure if we wanted we could do something like that. It would cost some money but also enrich our baseball league, spread baseball.
Do you notice that the countries we've taken the game to have fallen in love with it once they learned its many rules and practical its language?
So in Africa where all they have is soccer, there is room for a sport like baseball and we may unearth some mega athletes. Like I said, Europe is full of African superstars. They play for the top teams there and make those teams successful.
On one side of the coin, I do not believe in being discriminate against any group or country who wants to play the sport of baseball. On the other side, there is a slightly higher risk involved. Im not sure about the exact stats, but the HIV/AIDS virus is somewhat sporadic and rampant in many parts of the continent, which is putting a lot of people at risk. I understand that not all people of Africa carries the disease, but the numbers are worth taking a look at, and the areas that may be up for any consideration for baseball camps need to be safe for camps to be set up. But overall, all people who would like to play baseball at that age should be at least offered an opportunity to play. That's the love of game. RR
