On June 16, 2006, A 23-foot (7.1m) giant saltwater crocodile in Orissa, India and was crowned the world's largest living wild crocodile. In June 2006, this massive croc was entered in the Guinness Book of World Records. It is believed (but not verified because it could have been other crocodiles in the area) that this crocodile was responsible for the attack and death of one person, but two others have turned up missing in the area. It currently lives in Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary. Naturalists could not justify killing this living legend due to the lack of proof that it was responsible for the attack and they actually closed the area off to the general public due to the danger associated with the giant crocodile.
